Summary

Last year, ISANS worked with over 10,000 clients to build a future in Nova Scotia. As a volunteer, you can help ISANS, our clients, and the community build an inclusive environment where everyone can belong and grow.


About the Program:

Classroom volunteers play a vital role in supporting instructors in various programs, with a particular need in our Literacy program. Volunteers are assigned based on requests from instructors and undergo a Literacy-specific orientation before being placed in classrooms.


As a classroom volunteer, you will:

Support the instructor with provided materials

Work with one or two clients who have similar needs

Assist clients with activities such as letter formation, counting, and reading

Participate in role plays to model speaking activities

Support clients in developing their learning strategies

Show respect to clients and acknowledge their lifelong skills and successes

Note: There may be a waiting list for this volunteer position, and new volunteer intake may be temporarily paused.


Time Commitment:

Minimum of 1 consistent class per week

Classes offered in morning and early afternoon sessions

Class times: 9:00-11:30 am, 12:30-3:00 pm

Duration:

3 months to 1 year


Qualifications:

Canadian Language Benchmark 4 or higher (written and spoken)
